Millennium Officers Proclaimed at the Summer Picnic

The new officers of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception were proclaimed by Ms. Thelma Loreto-Goetz, incumbent president at the annual summer picnic last Saturday, July 31st at the Bristol Myers Squibb Corporate Park, New Brunswick, NJ.

It was learned through this news that the Hermanos/Hermanas fiesta '99 fielded their own candidates during the last election with Lolong Cablitas as their front-runner for president. Lolong Cablitas has the political blessing of the President, Ms. Thelma Loreto-Goetz, to run the top post of the organization. During the election, the entire slate of the Hermanos/Hermanas '99 ran unopposed thereby insuring victories in all positions. Noni Cortejos of Bitnh-n, Baybay Leyte was proclaimed as the new Vice President. Cablitas and Cortejos both graduated from the UE College of Law, Manila Philippines. During their senior year at the College of Law, Lolong and Noni were elected as Executive Vice President and Vice President respectively of U.E. Leyte Samar Varsitarian (Lesava). By coincidence, they are now again occupying top positions of the confraternity here in USA Evelyn Loreto deVries retained her position as secretary being the hand-pick candidate of the Hermanos/Hermanas '99. Virgie Cabanatan was the popular choice to hold the position of treasurer, who by profession is a CPA. Another key figure at the Confraternity is Boy Mascarias. He was elected as the new auditor.

Ninit Calungsod will hold the position as the PRO of the confradia and, will be responsible on all news releases. As considered as sensitive position, Ninit Calungsod will be managing the web page to make sure all news are disseminated to the general membership. The last, but not the least is our Law enforcer in the Confraternity- Ag Lacerna will hold the position as the new Sargeant-at-Arms. A former Manila policeman, Ag is very much active in different associations but his heart belongs to the Baybayanos. After his election, the President-elect has outlined several pet projects to include the webpage in which Ninit Calungsod is the PRO manager with the help of Franz Mascarias.

Fidl Ramirez and Ag Lacerna, early supporters of Lolong Cablitas predicted that their candidate for President would be the runaway winner. Likewise, Dr. Boy Garcia, another Cablitas supporter predicted the same situation, and he believes that Cablitas is eyeing the top elective position in Baybay in the near future.

The other projects lined up for this year are the Fundraising party for the benefit of the Baybay Roman Catholic Church. No date is set yet, but definitely announcements will be coming soon.

    NEWS UPDATE.....

    MEMBERSHIP DRIVE A PRIORITY

With the start of the new millennium the new officers of the confraternity has lined up several projects to include the enlisting of new members

This was disclosed recently in a conversation with Ninit Calungsod, PRO of the confraternity. Lolong noted that there are several Baybayanon residing in the tri-state New York, New Jersey, & Connecticut area that were unaware of the existence of the association. Most of them are concentrated in New Jersey and parts of Brooklyn and Queens area. In order to accommodate the processing of enrollment forms will be made available to all prospective members. The current annual membership fee is $12.00 to cover mailing and other charges which will go to the general funds. As expected all officers will be directly involved in this drive and members too are encouraged to gather information relating to the project. To attain this massive campaign an aggressive recruitment will determine the status of the confraternity in the Filipino community based in New Jersey and New York.

In a related development, the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception is invited to the inauguration and blessing of the new Philippine American Community of Bergen County (PACBC) building located in Paramus, New Jersey. President Lolong Cablitas and PRO Ninit Calungsod will represent the Confraternity during the event which will be held on October 10, 1999. PACBC is one of the biggest and oldest Filipino organizations in Bergen County. It was founded way back in the 1970's. The (PACBC) inauguration is extended by invitation only to a select group of Filipino associations. The former president and chairman of the PACBC building, Toto Sian, personally invited Lolong Cablitas along with the other prominent Filipino officials from the Philippine consulate and the business sectors are scheduled to attend the affair.
